Working Again
Once again, I had picked up a job, this time, something that is out of the desk. I had been selling laptop insurance to poly students in Temasek Poly. Working hours from 9am to 5pm, pay is $7 an hour. Duration : 1 week.Haha~ I have troubles promoting this insurance, partly because many people thought warranty covers what insurances cover, so there wasn't a need to buy one. But thats when you're wrong! While Warranty covers for any internal and malfunction parts in the system, Insurance plays a completely different ball game. It covers physical accidents (like water spillages, drops and knocks), theft and robberies and misplacements on public transport.. and on and on and on. I guess another reason why people do not buy insurances is the amount they need to pay for it. Even though $68 is not a big sum, but it is still considerably big if you're only receiving pocket money from your parents. And that was the reason why most of our applicants were parents who signed up for this scheme.
The first day was very bad.. since we didnt get any names at all. 2nd day was slightly better, with 2 applicants. so was the 3rd day with 2 applicants. At this point of time, we were thinking of just getting about 3 on the 4th day (actually it was just Yishan, but i was yepping away saying I was a prophet and i predicted 5 to turn up). But on the day itself, we have collected 8, breaking our 2 applicants per day policy by 3 folds. And to end it off, we gathered a total of 19 applicants on the last day. A total of 31 applicants within the week.
Some interesting things I have noted while doing this job:
1. Temasek poly have the coolest people with the latest fashions in town.. and also having the FD(Fashion disaster) as well. Eg. A girl who looked like a cosplayer, guy with obscene fats with tight t-shirts and different shoe laces.
2. Boss was really nice to us, giving us cakes after every day of hard work.
3. Of course, there were ah bengs as well. One particular group even have a clan; same hair, same slippers, even same dragon print tee-shirt (or maybe they're just gay)
4. Ive made Acer, Lenovo friends. none from apple and fujitsu.
Overall, it beats working in the office doing mundane typing of admin work. Although it was a little more tiring standing up and promoting sales, at least I got a fruitful week. :)
